Run an Alexa routine when a command runs
-
You've always been able to run a command from an Alexa routine, but now you can run an Alexa routine when your command runs.
Here are the steps:
- Enable the TRIGGERcmd Smart Home Alexa skill
- Create an Alexa routine
- Select When this happens
- Select Smart Home
- Select your command.
- Select SAVE
Here's a YouTube video showing how it works.

This is a game changer! I'm now able to create a custom response using Alexa routine. Thank you for the update!

@esaltat, good idea! Thanks for posting your use-case.
EDIT: FYI, to do what esaltat is talking about, you have your Alexa routine run a command that uses the Voice Reply field. The routine runs it via one of the 2 legacy Alexa skills called TRIGGERcmd or TRIGGER command. Alexa routines use those skills via the custom action that effectively has Alexa say to herself, "Alexa, ask TRIGGER C M D to run calculator." Substitute the word "calculator" for your command's voice word of course.
